Excise policy line: Sisodia in the crosshairs as LG seeks investigation by CBI

The already strained ties between the Center and the AAP government in Delhi came crashing down on Friday when Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena recommended a CBI investigation into Delhi’s 2021-22 excise policy, putting directly the Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, in charge of the Excise Department. in the line of fire.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hit back, saying the Lieutenant Governor was making “false allegations” and that AAP leaders were “not afraid of jail”.

The Lieutenant Governor’s decision follows a report submitted by Delhi’s Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar on the matter. The report, which officials say was submitted on July 8, accuses Sisodia of providing improper benefits to liquor sales license holders instead of “bribes” and “commissions” and l money used in recent elections in Punjab.

Contacted for comment, the Lieutenant Governor’s office said: ‘The Delhi Chief Secretary has submitted a report highlighting procedural shortcomings and post-tender benefits granted to licensees. The Delhi LG has sent recommendations to the Home Ministry for a CBI investigation into Delhi’s excise policy.
