Ann M. Brow, 88, died Wednesday, March 16, 2022. Ann was born May 8, 1933, the eldest daughter of William F. and Ethel M. (Brinson) Batten in Trenton.
On June 25, 1955, at St. James Episcopal Church in Grosse-Île, she married Bernard A. (Bernie) Brow, who survived.
Ann began her career as an accountant right after graduating from Trenton High School in 1951. She took a job as a bank teller after graduation, which marked the start of her career. a life of calculations.
After moving to Northport in 1972, she worked as an accountant or served as treasurer for numerous businesses and organizations. Working for Hammersley Construction, JL Stowe Oil Co., Charter’s Greenhouse, NCAC, his last at Forget-Me-Not Florist. She was Treasurer of Leelanau Township from 1984 to 1996.
Ann also always worked for or with children. With the children, she insisted on being fair and kind. These are words she lived and passed on to the children in her life. Ann was a Girl Scout Leader for many years, served on the Northport Public School Board, Northport PTO, Leelanau Children’s Center, Northport, Best for Kids. Ann was a founding member of Zonta from Leelanau.
Ann was a wonderful homemaker. Many who knew her enjoyed her homemade treats! Christmas cookies, brownie cake, raspberry cordial made with fresh raspberries from her raspberry field in the garden. She loved to take care! She was the queen of DIY before it was popular. Gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, wallpapering, upholstery, furniture finishing, ceramics, rug weaving, she’s done it all and more! She enjoyed cross-country skiing, a good game of cards and golf with her friends.
Above all, Ann was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt to those she leaves behind. She will be greatly missed by all of us. Her husband, Bernie, 65; children, Lynn Brow, Wendy (Reginald) Dean; grandchildren, Miranda (Oscar) Christianson, Noah (Tiffany) Dean, Nicholas (Erica) Dean; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Maria, Ricky, Laura, Karson, Lilly, Scott, Clayton and Jasper; plus many nieces; and nephews.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents; his son, Scott; his siblings, Paul Batten and Iva Allen.
A celebration of life is planned for this summer.
