EXCLUSIVE: Before its world premiere at Hot Docs, based in London EncounterFilm Sales has secured the worldwide sales rights to Adjust! directed by Scott Gawlik, segment producer on the Emmy-nominated Netflix series A little help with Carol Burnett.

The film, which has a hint of Waiting for Guffman and Best of Show about it, sees a group of highly competitive table dressers competing for the “Best of Show” ribbon at the annual Orange County Fair competition, often referred to as “the table setting Olympics. “. From taxidermized monkeys to table reveal parties, eccentric personalities and old rivalries come to a head as contestants spend months preparing their tables only to be penalized by a stray dessert fork – affectionately referred to as ‘yourself’.

Adjust! marks the directorial debut of producer Gawlik. His previous credits also include Dave Attell: Roadworks and Todd Glass: Act happy. Vesna Cudic, Head of EncounterFilm Sales, negotiated the deal directly with the filmmaker.

“Settle! Has so much heart,” Cudic says. “We fell in love with it at first sight and felt compelled to tell all of our friends and families about it.”

MetFilm’s current roster also includes the Sundance duo Micha and the wolves and The reason I jump, and the title SXSW The Return: Life After Isis.

The Canadian Hot Docs showcase kicks off this week in a hybrid but largely virtual format.
