Margaret Pearle Fox Pettit, 100, of Mount Morris, Pennsylvania, died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at the home where she was born.
She was born on Wednesday September 28, 1921 in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Ray Fox and the late Bertha Headlee Fox.
Ms Pettit was a 63 member of the former Shannon Run Methodist Church. She was a former adult Sunday School teacher for 52 years and the former president of the United Methodist Women’s Program. When her health permitted, she volunteered at the hospice.
She worked as a secretary for the Hazel Atlas Glass in Washington, Pennsylvania and also worked as an accountant at the Gimbel department store in Pittsburgh. She then worked as a secretary for West Virginia University, retiring in 1983 after 26 years for a total of 43 years in accounting. She graduated in 1939 from Mount Morris High School and Penn Commercial College in Washington, Pennsylvania, class of 1940-1941.
Her husband, William Silas Pettit Sr., whom she married on July 21, 1950, died on September 6, 2002.
Surviving are five step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. Also survived are her caregivers, Clara Lou and Bruce Eddy, of Core, and Dale and Jackie Patterson, of Mount Morris, Pennsylvania, along with several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the last of her immediate family.
The deceased are a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law and two brothers, Victor Patterson and Frank Fox.
Friends will be received at Milliken and Throckmorton FH, Inc. Daryl L. Throckmorton Owner/Manager, 324 Mt. Morris Road, PO Box 478 Mt. Morris, PA 15349, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 13 . Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 14, with pastors Joe Adams and Samson Samuels officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mount Morris, Pennsylvania.
