Sandra (Sandy) H. McGavin passed away peacefully on January 5, 2022 (following a short battle with lung cancer) at her Mehoopany home with her family and loved ones by her side.

She was born in South Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and raised in Oakmont and Green Lane near Philadelphia. She moved with her parents, Ruth and Lloyd Stanley Hoff, Sr., to Wyalusing when she was in high school. She graduated from Wyalusing High School in 1955.

After high school, she stayed in the Wyalusing area, very busy at home raising her four children. With her children grown up and out of the house, she returned to work and, after various bookkeeping jobs, finally started working at the Procter & Gamble factory in Mehoopany and retired in 1995.

After retiring from P&G, Sandy met Don Miller of Mehoopany, who has become her life partner, best friend and constant companion. She and Don both had a love for flowers and the outdoors. From their home in Mehoopany, they enjoyed gardening / harvesting, watching wild animals of all kinds (even the occasional bears) roam the property. She became an avid bird watcher and watched for hours.

In her later years, she came to love the weekends, especially Sundays, when her children and grandchildren called her and chatted with her.

Sandy has four surviving children, Fred Walker of Colorado Springs, CO, Mike Walker (Cathi) of Jersey Shore, Terry Frith (Greg) of Cape Coral, Fla., And Daniel Brown of Carbondale. She has seven grandchildren and two step-granddaughters, Kyle, Kelsey, Cole, Nicole (Nikki), Ally, Michael, Joshua, Cathrin and Maxine. She was also fortunate to have 11 great-grandchildren.

Don has four sons Sandy considered family, Mike Miller of Black Walnut, Richard and Terry Miller of Mehoopany, and Ronald Miller of Tallahassee, Florida. There are also several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sandy is survived by her sister, Rhoda “Barbara” Dudley of Philadelphia, as well as several dear nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service is scheduled at the American Legion Hall in Black Walnut on his birthday, Saturday April 30, 2022.

Arrangements were made through Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 Main Street, Meshoppen.
