A family-owned accounting firm in Coventry continued to expand after acquiring a well-established local practice.
Shah & Co took over the town’s neighbors Tucker Accountancy and Bookkeeping Services after its managing director Chris Tucker announced his retirement.
The Tile Hill-based practice will be integrated into Shah & Co’s portfolio, making it one of the largest midsize accounting firms in the city.
The acquisition allows Shah & Co to continue its trend of acquiring small practices from retired practitioners across the Midlands.
Its co-founder and director Haren Shah agreed to the purchase with Tucker, who sought a buyer after advancing his retirement by a year.
Shah and his family moved to Coventry in 1973 following the expulsion of Asians from Uganda. He founded the business with his wife, Sonal in 1985, and developed it with the help of his son Jay.
He said: “I have known Chris Tucker for many years and wish the circumstances of this acquisition were different, but we feel extremely privileged that he entrusted us with his clients.
“Our first job will be to prove to our new clients that we offer an unparalleled one-stop-shop accounting service, grounded in family values and that we cater to clients from different industries and communities.
“As a mid-sized firm, we are able to provide personal attention and fair pricing that clients would be hard-pressed to find in larger firms, which puts us in an ideal position to provide services to businesses of all sizes.
“We provide financial planning support for businesses and estates, auditing and bookkeeping services as well as advice on business start-ups and taxation, and this latest acquisition is a signal of our intention to bring our services to clients from all walks of life as we continue to expand.
